How to Improve Your Drawing Skills Whilst Having a Fun Time with Like-minded People

Drawing is all about looking and putting down on paper what you see – not what you think you see.

The drawings above are from my sketchbook which I take everywhere with me. These were done at one of the cafes at the National Museum of Scotland, Chamber Street, Edinburgh. Every Sunday afternoon a group of Urban Sketchers from Edinburgh, including myself, go out and about sketching the city and the people in it. To find out more about this group, check out the Edinburgh Life Drawing and Sketching Meetup group.

I also attend the All The Young Nudes life drawing sessions on a Tuesday evening at Cabaret Voltaire, Edinburgh. They also organise life drawing events at other Scottish venues.  Expect cool music and great models. There is no tuition – you can just do your own thing and work in whatever medium you fancy.

Tonight I am going to the opening of a new venture – RECONFIGURE at the Sketchy Beats Café in Leith. Organiser, Topaz Pauls, promises to deliver “subversive, imaginative and playful drawing events” – definitely something different… I will let you know how it goes.
